HEALTH OFFICIALS are yet to identify the white powdery substance which was delivered by mail to the National Union of Public Workers’ Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters last night.
However, NATION NEWS has been informed that three union employees were “hosed down” by the Barbados Fire Service last night and made to put their clothing in plastic bags. They were given protective suits to wear.
Twenty-six nurses who were attending the Eunice Gibson Lecture on the compound were not allowed to leave until after midnight.
They were advised to leave their vehicles on the compound and those who agreed were taken home by police officers. Those who refused were told to drive to the entrance gates where their vehicles were hosed down.
A tent was pitched during the night and a team of doctors headed by Dr Chaynie Williams treated people who complained of sore throats, itchy skin and watery eyes.
Police, Fire Service and Ministry of Health personnel are currently on the scene.
A few Sanitation Service Authority workers were seen, including shop steward president Hugh Smith, but they soon left.
Also spotted was acting assistant general secretary Wayne Walrond, who told NATION ONLINE the headquarters was shut down until further notice. (MB/CA)
