LOCAL junior squash players are up against some of the best in the region at the Caribbean Squash Association Junior Squash Championships which began here yesterday morning at two locations.
The individual component began at the Barbados Squash Club at Marine Gardens and the Pleasant Place Squash Club at Dayrells Road, and a number of Barbadian players made their debut.
One of them was Ryan Archer in the Boys’ Under-13 competition. He held his nerve to defeat Guyana’s Demetrius De Abreu 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8 in one of the early matches in the morning. However, he was beaten 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 in the second round by Christopher Anthony of Trinidad and Tobago.
Aidan Parris, another Under-13 player, also won his opening match against Jamaica’s Tobias Levy 11-3, 15-13, 11-4 but, just like Archer, faltered in the second round. (PG)
