Good choices

WERE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ARISE, this reviewer would give the judges nine “high-fives” for clearly adhering to the Pic-O-De-Crop criteria and, at the end of last Friday night, rewarding storytelling, music and relevance.

These nine finalists along with monarch Ian Webster should provide an interesting and palatable menu for the “big yard”; and while three crowd pullers – GabbyMikey and MRBLOOD – were deservedly left out, the unmistakable and most important winner on August 1 should be the calypso art form.

If there were any surprise inclusions, it may have been Enobong and, to a lesser extent, Colin Spencer.

Enobong is a natural kaisowoman, and therefore needed to do very little to effectively communicate her messages of Crop Over Without Canes and Join The Army. Furthermore, both songs are relevant and the latter is particularly sweet musically. (RJ)
