Maxwell beach destroyed by groynes

WE ARE WRITING to voice our concern over the groynes placed on Maxwell Beach by the owners of Sandals Resort. We have been visiting Barbados for the last 25 years, of which 20 years have been at Bougainvillea Beach Resort or Sand Acres. The groynes have destroyed what was a beautiful public beach. How could the Government allow such wanton destruction?

It is now very difficult to walk the beach as the groynes extend up to the private property line and are dangerous to try to climb over. They have also caused a great deal of erosion and now the sand, in places, feels more like concrete. We strongly feel that Sandals should be made to immediately remove these groynes and allow the beach to return to its natural state.

We will be returning to Barbados in February 2016 and hope that we will be able to see some improvement and a return to what nature intended.
