Akela medals at Pan Am Games

THE QUEEN of the jumps has leapt to yet another podium finish.

And further history.

Transcendent track and field star Akela Jones struck it rich on the international stage again, having picked up Barbados’ first medal at the Pan Am Games in Toronto after clearing 1.91 metres to win bronze in yesterday’s high jump final.

It was a truly ground-breaking feat for the gifted 20-year-old multi-eventer, who not only achieved a new career-high mark in the process, but broke Desiree Crichlow’s previous national record of 1.88 metres, which had been standing for 12 years.
