MANY TEENAGERS are taking advantage of free courses being offered at community centres around Barbados, but the “boys on the block” appear not to be interested.
Programme coordinator for Government’s community centres, Bridgette Marshall-Griffith, is disturbed by the trend since she pointed out the courses offered were designed to equip students to find gainful employment.
Therefore, she was disappointed that outside community centres there were young men spending the day idling on a neighbourhood “block”, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity being offered to enhancement their knowledge.
On the other hand, Marshall-Griffith was heartened there were a number of teenage boys either of school age or who had just left school, who were taking advantage of the programmes. (GC)
