‘Stateless’ man’s sentence September 11

IN A CASE UNCANNILY similar to that of Raoul Garcia, a Guyanese man who spent most of his life in St Vincent and the Grenadines but has been on remand at HMP Dodds for nearly eight years, may find himself “stateless” once he is sentenced and released by the Supreme Court in September.

Leroy Matthew Alexander, also known as Albert Anthony Alexander, 38, yesterday reappeared on drug charges before Justice Randall Worrell, who bluntly told him, “there is nowhere to send you”, once he is sentenced to “time served” within the next two months.

Guyana has not responded to the matter and there is no official record of Alexander’s existence in St Vincent. (Coastline Communication)
