Fire chief: Crash no challenge

THE PLANE THAT CRASHED into a field at Ealing Grove, Christ Church, yesterday morning was leaking fuel when fire officials got there.

But the entire incident was no challenge for the island’s fire service.

This was the word from Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard (below), who was one of the senior emergency officials on the scene at the light plane crash. errol-maynard

Maynard said 16 officers responded and they were supported by the crash tender from Grantley Adams International Airport, a water tender from Probyn Street headquarters in Bridgetown and another from the Worthing, Christ Church station.

“When we got here we found that some fuel was leaking from the plane and we applied foam to minimise the possibility of fire. Then we stood by for the police to do their investigation,” he told the DAILY NATION … (HLE)
