VISITORS have flown in in record numbers, and officials at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) are planning to roll out an aggressive campaign, including taking advantage of websites like TripAdvisor to keep them coming.

Reiterating that the island’s economy continued to “experience a tourism-led resurgence”, BTMI chairman Alvin Jemmott said the number of long-stay visitors, 303 592 from January to June this year, was a 29-year high.

“We recognise that with today’s business, reviews and comments on sites such as TripAdvisor are more convincing than any other travel marketing channel,” Jemmott said.

“It can never be overstated that our people are our biggest brand ambassadors and we’re keen on working with the newly installed BTPA [Barbados Tourism Product Authority] CEO Dr Kerry Hall in designing a new national tourism public awareness campaign to support our digital marketing strategy and leverage this development to our full advantage,” he said.
