Walk Holy, the first band out of the gates from the National Stadium, was greeted with applause by the early birds who had lined the streets just after 9.30 a.m.
Security personnel had a tougher time keeping the first few small bands compacted along the narrow streets on that section of the route leading down to Spring Garden, but there were no incidents.
As usual, sno cone and other vendors were on hand to keep spectators happy. (BA)
