AS THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH prepares to fully roll out a Medical Data system, health Minister John Boyce is encouraging all health professionals to become computer literate.
Med Data, which is currently being piloted at the Winston Scott and Edgar Cochrane Polyclinics as well as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and across the entire public sector, will be online and functional within the next year.
Addressing awardees of the Ministry of Health/National Initiative for Service Excellence’s (NISE) 2014 100 Improvements in Nursing in 100 Days Organisational Challenge awards ceremony held at the Accra Beach hotel, Rockley Christ Church Friday, Boyce explained computer literacy would help to support health reform initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Health.
The minister said nursing personnel played a very important role in managing the data system, since the information received from clients would enable them to make more informed and timely decisions on nursing interventions and increase access to appropriate referrals and follow up. He said the emphasis should therefore be on ensuring that all nursing personnel become computer literate and acquire skills necessary to facilitate the effectiveness of the system. (SDB Media)
