ATTORNEY GENERAL Adriel Brathwaite is raising a red flag about the proliferation of illegal guns in Barbados, following a week of gun-related crime.

A rash of shootings across the island last week that left some people injured and resulted in the death of at least one man, led to the Attorney General raising the issue of crime which he said was of great concern to him.

He put the spotlight on the senseless use of guns in the commission of crime and referred to the random gunfire heard in communities at night by young men “showing off their firepower or saluting birthdays”.

Brathwaite was speaking on a resolution in the House of Assembly yesterday to approve government’s borrowing of BDS $76 million from the National Insurance Board to finance several projects that will result in better facilities and new accommodations for the police.
