Bajan baller impresses in N. Ireland

ONE OF BARBADOS’ most talented young footballers was offered the opportunity to fulfil his lifelong dream as a professional footballer.

Sadly, he couldn’t take it up and will have to wait a little bit longer.

Ranaldo Bailey – the 19-year-old University of the West Indies (UWI) and Barbados senior team centre back – completed a three-week trial with Northern Ireland Premier League club Ballymena United but had to turn down their contract offer as it wasn’t financially viable.

“They offered me the contract but unfortunately they can only offer £75 (BDS$235) a week, and I had to pay £50 a day for rent so I wouldn’t have been able to survive on that,” explained Bailey.
