THE SUGAR MILL ROOM at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre was overflowing with extra sweetness as friends and well-wishers showered love on community matriach Elma Grant as she celebrated her birthday yesterday.
Grant, proprietor of Elma’s Bar & Groceries, of Britton’s Hill, St Michael, and who turned 80 on Friday, was given special treatment by about 150 guests.
A recipient of a Barbados Service Medal in 2011, Grant was adorned with a VIP sash and was the centre of attention by the likes of Minister of Tourism and MP for the area Richard Sealy, Carol Lady Haynes, Senator Reverend David Durant and Governor of the Central Bank Dr DeLisle Worrell. (JS)
