ANGLICAN PRIEST CHARLES MORRIS has taken issue with a statement coming from the Anglican Commission on Advocacy and Social Justice that has dismissed a view which links increased crime to a depressed economy.
“In our judgement, that is a simplistic view which we do not share,” said a statement coming from John Goddard, chairman of the commission, yesterday.
But Morris has taken issue with the statement, saying he was not sure that Goddard “spoke on behalf of the Anglican Church” and queried “who gave him the authority, because in this church we go by bishop and priests and then laity”.
Goddard said in a Press release that the recent upsurge in violence had caused the commission to make a number of suggestions to deal with the issue.
