TOUGH PRAEDIAL larceny laws requiring wholesalers to prove how they got the produce are months away from becoming a reality. Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick made the disclosure yesterday in the wake of more complaints about the impact this illegal activity was having.
Estwick said because the former Praedial Larceny Act was lacking in so many ways and did not provide for effective traceability of produce movement, produce monitoring in and outside of markets and enforcement, it was recommended by the Chief Parliamentary Council that the old act be repealed and new comprehensive legislation created. This has been done.
