Saffrey takes Kingdom Arts cook-off title

THE HEAD OF the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society is now the Kingdom Arts cook-off champion.

Kemar Saffrey walked away with the $500 prize for his charity last night after his dish of pasta mixed with fried chicken, topped with cheese, and garlic bread, broccoli and carrots on the side wowed the judges.

His 22 points put him just two points ahead of singer and songwriter Keann Walters, who was competing for her charity Jabez House at the event held at Bagatelle Great House, St Thomas.

Pastor Roger Husbands of the Drug Education and Counselling Service had to settle for third with 18 points.

“I feel good. From the time I was on the interview with Roger and he said he’s going to smoke me . . . when you smell smoke you smell hope so I felt all the hope in the world,” said Saffrey.

“Thank God for winning this.”

The second annual cook-off was the featured event in the Life 97.5 Fm Culinary Experience that forms part of the Kingdom Arts Festival. (WILLCOMM)
