GOVERNMENT is looking for ways to market its tertiary education sector to the world as a business.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones said yesterday he was awaiting the results of an EU-funded study on the subject which should be ready by September.
Speaking to the media at the British High Commission after greeting winners of the British Chevening scholarship, Jones acknowledged that education as a service was a major economic sector around the world and admitted there were opportunities for Barbados to tap into this business.
However, he said before any action could be taken to capitalise on whatever opportunities there were, a lot of work would first have to be done and structures developed to accommodate students coming here to take advantage of the island’s higher education facilities.
Consultant at the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development Dr Roderick Rudder spoke more extensively on Government’s plans when, deputising for Jones, he addressed the launch of the private initiative Study Caribbean recently.
