NCC case hearing soon

THE controversial dismissal of scores of National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers will be among the nine new cases coming before the Employment Rights Tribunal next month.

Chairman of the tribunal Hal Gollop confirmed to the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that the NCCworkers’ case was among the next set of matters to be heard starting next month. However, he stressed that “all cases will be treated with equal importance”.

About 200 NCC workers lost their jobs in March last year as part of spending cuts by the statutory body responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of beaches and public spaces around the island. Since the job cuts, many of the workers have staged public protests to draw attention to their plight.
