ALTAR CALL: A debt we all owe God

THERE IS A DEBT that each of us owes to God.

That debt, according to Dr Ricardo Strachan of Prophetic Worshippers International in Fort Lauderdale, United States, includes our lives, our praise, our worship and faithfulness, among other things.

Strachan was one of two featured speakers during the Harvesting Souls For the End Times three-day conference which began Friday night at the main Guard Building, The Garrison, St Michael.

It was hosted by Apostle Marguerite Breedy-Haynes of Saving The Lost At Any Cost End Times Ministries International.

Strachan said that instead of running away, we should pay The Debtor (God) what we owe Him.

“Creditors never come to collect something that is not theirs,” the overseer and pastor stressed. “We owe much to God.”

His message, titled I’m Coming Out, was  centred on the story of the widow’s olive oil in 2 Kings 4:1-7.

He explained that the widow, who was deep in debt which was left behind by her husband and faced the possibility of losing her two sons to her debtor, had taken the advice of the prophet Elisha who had inquired what she had in her home. After explaining that she had a little oil, Elisha called on her to borrow as many jars as she could and pour the oil in the jars. She was then advised by the prophet to sell the oil and pay her creditor.

Strachan stressed that just as this woman had to fight the creditor, many people faced fights on the job, within their families and in marriages.

He also said that just as she pointed out that her husband, who was Elisha’s servant, had died, there were some within the church who were alive and faithful to every good cause while their homes were in a mess.

“They are anointed to preach but their homes are dying.”

Strachan added that the widow had been hanging out with the wrong people and God would never bless our “hook-ups”. Rather, He “is still in the business of blessing our divine connections”.

He explained that the widow was divinely connected to Elijah through her husband.

“The woman with an issue of blood hung out with people who saw her as unclean; but she touched Jesus. We too have to be in that place where we are touching those who are touching Jesus. It does not matter what you have left, as long as you still have the oil of the anointing.”

The minister explained that just as the widow poured oil in the empty jars, believers too must pour anointing oil into the lives of others.

The Bahamian-born pastor also told the congregation that no matter what seasons they faced in life, “God has an all-purpose seasoning that will change the flavour. That’s why the Bible says everything works together for the good of those who love the Lord”.

He stressed that Elisha never encouraged the widow to run from her debt.

“There is a debt we owe God. We owe Him holiness, praise and worship. We owe Him our lives,” Strachan reiterated.

Praise and worship ushered forth from the worship team and congregation while Strachan also took time to pray for and obtain deliverance to many.
