THE RUBIS TEAM of legendary Scottish rally driver Jimmy McRae and Ian Grindrod drove away with the honours for Category 2 cars built between 1968 and 1975 in last weekend’s Barbados Historic Rally organised by the Vaucluse Raceway Motor Sport Club (VRMSC).
The pair, driving a Porsche 911RS, finished second overall in the event which ran ahead of the Summer Sun and Stars Rally organised jointly by the Barbados Rally Club and the Motoring Club Barbados Inc. (MCBI).
With co-driver Grindrod, McRae also made off with the coveted King of the Carnival Challenge Trophy for best overall performance in the event which attracted 30 local cars.
McRae, who is due to take part in this year’s Wales Rally GB for the first time in ten years, won the British Rally Championship five times from 1981 to 1988 and was runner-up in the European Rally Championship for drivers in 1982.
