GOVERNMENT is happy for any help it can get with sports. Private sector help especially.

Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley believes corporate Barbados has an important role to play in funding sporting initiatives, having lauded Digicel, Gatorade and Berger Paints for staging the ongoing NBA Jumpstart Basketball Clinics.

Lashley expressed the sentiment while delivering remarks at yesterday’s media launch for the NBA camp at Digicel’s corporate offices in Wildey.

“It is good that corporate Barbados gets it in terms of the development of sports, and of course that role is one that has to be shared with the Government of Barbados [because] often times it is the Government that the finger is pointed to in relation to developing sports policy, constructing sporting facilities and, of course, doing all the grassroots type programmes,” said Lashley.
