Shaken ‘but not broken’

DOMINICA may have been beaten into virtual submission by Tropical Storm Erika, but the island nation will not be emotionally broken.

That promise has come from President Angelo Charles Savarin.

“It is amazing that a tropical storm, and not a hurricane, would have caused so much damage,” Savarin said yesterday, admitting surprise at the system’s destructive strength. “It is something that took us by surprise.

“But Dominicans are a very resilient people. Some of them have put their lives at risk to save their countrymen. It then depends on the resilience of a community to come together after a tragedy like this.”
