Tax-relief cut

FROM THIS MONTH, middle and upper income earners in Barbados are expected to get more money in their pay packs.

A month after income tax reductions were to take effect, the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) announced yesterday that employers were directed to immediately cut the tax rate.

The middle class has for almost eight years complained that they had borne the brunt of Government’s structural adjustment programme, paying higher taxes as well as having to pay for some social services.

One of the biggest complaints was Government’s removal of several income tax deductions for things like mortgage interest, house insurance and home repairs.
