TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO’S People’s National Movement (PNM) is back in office.
Prime Minister-elect Dr Keith Rowley said in a nationwide interview late last night: “We are confident that the country has been placed in good hands . . . . We will manage in the interest of all; it is the beginning of a new era.”
He promised not to be prime minister of the PNM but of all Trinidad and Tobago.
His comments came at 11:20 p.m. when he appeared before the media at his party’s headquarters at Balisier House where there was a sea of red, with jubilant supporters celebrating after pollster Nigel Henry had called the victory for the PNM on CCN TV6. Up to press time the count was 23 seats to 18 in favour of the PNM in the 41 constituencies.
In Tobago, PNM supporters were also in a victory mode as the party won both of the seats at stake there by overwhelming margins. (ES)
