The overcast skies did nothing to dampen the competition yesterday on the opening day of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) at Bushy Park.

A very small crowd was on hand for qualifying but organisers are hopeful that today’s racing will attract a bumper crowd.

Group 4 of the CMRC is shaping up to be a thrilling one after local boy Roger Mayers  wowed the crowd in his Ford Focus and snatched pole position with a qualifying time of 1:00.472. Last year’s champion Kristian Vieira from Guyana was second fastest with 1:00.623 in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.
