MINISTER OF SOCIAL CARE Steve Blackett is calling for more people to educate themselves about the care of dementia patients.
He made the call this morning while addressing participants at a seminar at the Savannah Hotel, which formed part of activities for Alzheimer’s Week.
As of 2014, an estimated 4 070 people in Barbados were suffering from dementia, and 54 per cent of the elderly people in the Geriatric Hospital are suffering from dementia.
Blackett noted the care and cost of dementia was an “incredible burden” on Government, society and family. (YB)
