KITCHEN STAFF at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are steaming over their work conditions.
After enduring three weeks of overbearing heat inside the hospital’s main kitchen, the workers have stepped away from their pots and will stay off the job until that matter is addressed.
Workers of the 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift are currently assembled at the back of the hospital, complaining that the extractor fans, especially those above the pots, are not working.
Two workers have already fainted while on job, one on Tuesday and the other yesterday.
They were previously relocated to the school meals department during the summer to facilitate renovations in the kitchen. 
However, they have returned to the hospital and found the extractor fans are still not working.
Electricians from the hospitals engineering department are currently working on small extractor fans.
President of the National Union of Public Workers Akanni McDowall visited the workers earlier today to reassure them they have the support of the union and will seek to resolve the situation urgently. (LT)
