RELIEF MIGHT BE on the way for protesting kitchen staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The director of support services at the QEH, Louise Bobb, said she understands the discomfort of the workers and will try to install extractor fans in the main kitchen as soon as possible.
She said the new, bigger heat extractor fans are currently in the port and they will attempt to collect them today.
She said the installation of the fans was a part of phase one of the kitchen refurbishment project which also included the removal of asbestos and electrical installation and lighting. However, due to “a glitch in the procurement schedule,” Bobb said the workers returned to work before the fans could be installed.
They were temporarily relocated at the School Meals Department from July 6 to August 23. She said in the meantime, relief workers would be preparing meals, noting that “while there may be a delay in the regular meal times, every patient will continue to receive their meals”. (LT)
