THE Community Development Department believes it is primed to respond to the training needs of neighbourhood youths and adults who want to improve their skills or learn new ones.

“When we go out into the community, they would indicate to the officers and to the aides the kind of programmes that they want to engage in and then we set up these programmes for them to have some training in the areas,” said Acting Chief Community Development Officer Patricia Hackett-Codrington.

“So programmes like needlework and lingerie making, floral arranging, some cake and pastry making, nail technology, soap making, and dressmaking, beginners and advanced – these are the kinds of things that we have been engaging in recently,” she said.

All this is done under the department’s Community Impact Programme (CIP) which is for people not currently enrolled in established educational programmes.
