Back to school in Dominica

ALMOST EVERY SCHOOL in storm-ravaged Dominica will open this morning.

Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Petter Saint-Jean, told the DAILY NATION that 72 of the island’s 75 schools will be open for classes.

“We have come a long way. Not so long ago, there were 22 schools that were affected. Now, there are just three schools that are not yet ready to resume classes,” he said.

Saint-Jean, 53, who has been education minister since 2009, was speaking at the Dominica Relief Celebrity charity game at Kensington Oval on Saturday night that attracted elite sportsmen Brian Lara, Yohan Blake and Dwight Yorke.

“The support has been overwhelming. This T20 charity match means everything to every Dominican,” he said.
