FOUR FIRST DIVISION football teams involved in suspicious results in their final games last season have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
In the last-minute push for promotion, Belfield whipped Cosmos 25-1 and Ellerton blanked Parish Land 18-0. The results saw Belfield, Ellerton and Compton finishing the league on 48 points with only goal difference separating them at the time.
However, the results of the two matches raised alarm and the Barbados Football Association (BFA) decided to investigate the matter.
Citing this “unprecedented” development in local football, the BFA sought advice from CONCACAF, the sport’s parent body in the Caribbean, Central and North America.
BFA president Randy Harris said the association had to tread carefully because it had to be on the right side of the legal fence as the matter was a very sensitive one.
