Still no stadium funds

SEVEN MONTHS since the stands at the National Stadium were closed for safety reasons, the Government is still trying to source funds for the redevelopment of the 45-year-old venue.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Stephen Lashley earlier this week told Weekend Sport that they have received a lot of attention from parties interested in financing the redevelopment and they will now meet with the Ministry of Finance to discuss those options.

Lashley noted that it was unfortunate that the stadium was not redeveloped when the economy was more robust but admitted that there have been some positives coming out of the closure of the stands.

“I think the closure of the stands has created a type of response from not only the private sector, but from international donor agencies and they have made certain submissions to us and we will discuss the various options with the Ministry of Finance.
