Her morning class is due to start in about five minutes and people clear the way as Lesley Walcott is breaking the speed limit in her “Mercedes” wheelchair to make it to the classroom on time.
“I like to be punctual”, she says to the small group keeping pace with her as she zips along the short distance from her office at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus to the nearby lecture room at a speed that tests the 30-miles-per-hour she jests her wheelchair can reach.
To anyone looking on, it is obvious that multiple sclerosis has definitely not floored this trooper who hid her condition for 25 years.
