RETIRED Barbados Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Sean Reece died yesterday in an apparent suicide.

Following a single gunshot explosion around 9:30 a.m., Reece, a former commander of the marine arm of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), was found dead with a bullet wound to the head at his home at Nautilus Apartments, Bay Street, St Michael. A firearm was also discovered next to the body.

The unexpected ending shocked family members and close friends but particularly members of the BDF, where Reece, 56, had a colourful career from 1982 until his retirement four years ago.

“Headquarters Barbados Defence Force is deeply saddened by news of the untimely death of Mr Sean Reece,” the BDF stated in a Press release.
