Walcott’s 5th straight with 139 victories

THE MAGICAL NUMBER is 139.

That’s the final tally of wins for Rico Walcott, who has been crowned champion jockey at Northlands Park in Alberta, Canada, for the fifth consecutive year. Walcott placed the seal on another flawless season with a pair of braces on the Friday night and Saturday afternoon cards.

Like a true champ, Walcott signed off by taking Saturday’s feature 19th running of the CAN$50 000 Canadian Juvenile Stakes over one mile with the chestnut gelding, the 2/5 favourite Awesome State. The pair sat on the outside of leader Credits Good through some hot fractions of 23.30 for the quarter, and 46.98 for the half mile.
