WHERE IS THE remainder of our money?

That’s the question the independent sugar cane farmers want answered as they also keep an eye on possible drought conditions and poor cane growth with the tentative start of the 2016 sugar crop a mere four months away.

And Patrick Bethell, the chairman of the Barbados Sugar Industry Limited (BSIL), the body representing the independent farmers, has complained there has been no dialogue from the two entities in the industry – the Barbados Cane Industry Corporation (BCIC) or the Barbados Agricultural Management Corporation (BAMC).

Bethell told the SATURDAY SUN that while farmers had received part-payment for the last crop, the September 30 deadline had come and gone for the final sums to be paid.
