OUTSIDE THE PULPIT: Good job done by store

Date:

The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness, for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. – Luke 16:8

SOME DAY last week, I paid a visit to Cave Shepherd on Broad Street and while there I was a bit lost and did not realise where I was for a short time. The store looked so different.

I was not suffering with or from anything – not even dementia. At one time I thought that I was at Macy’s on 34th Street in Manhattan, or in one of the Sears stores in Kings Plaza, Brooklyn, New York or Green Acres in Long Island, United States.

That impressive feeling came about because the store has recently been renovated and remodelled. It looks really nice and it gives the impression that it is one of the main stores around the world.

I am sure the renovations will enhance business for Cave Shepherd and provide comfort for many shoppers. We must remember that good things are not cheap. The upgrade also saw six new escalators which were installed – two on each floor – which I believe ran into millions of dollars.

The third floor is something to behold. I hope that more businesses in Barbados will follow the example of Cave Shepherd.

I do not shop often, but when I do, I have to do so where the environment is clean and attractive. I do not like places that are confused for shopping. Whenever the environment is clean it will encourage people to do business.

There are some businesses around Barbados which leave much to be desired. It is time that those places put back some of their profit into the business. There is a saying that money does follow money and it is very true.

Keep it up Cave Shepherd. You are the only departmental store on Broad Street and in Barbados as well and you have to behave as the main departmental store, which you are doing.
