DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Queen’s College were practically gift wrapped the Massy Secondary Schools Girls’ Volleyball League title today as they easily whipped Christ Church Foundation in straight sets in the final at the Springer Memorial School’s auditorium.
Queen’s College won 25-11, 25-12, 27-25 on the backs of an overall team effort.
Coach Andrew Brathwaite told the NATION that he thought the game was relatively easy with the semi-final against Harrison College being much tougher.
Queen’s College easily won the first two sets at 11 and 12 but in the third set, Foundation seemed to realise that they were in a final.
Tessa-Lee Moore was utilised as the setter and she combined beautifully with Durant to give Foundation hope of at least winning the third set.
Foundation led 10-6 at one stage but the superiority of the Queen’s College team, boasting six junior national players, soon saw the score tied 18-18. So fierce was the fightback from Foundation that Queen’s College were at set point three times before they finally won 27-25. (PG)
