Time to maximise Barbados, Guyana relations

I THINK THAT the time has come for Barbados and Guyana to maximise their trade, economic and political relationships to benefit the populations of both countries.

Because of the differences in size, both countries should be able to complement each other in different areas in an effort to speed up the development process to their mutual benefit.

The recent increase in the political overtures made by the Guyana government is a good sign that relations between the two countries are moving in a positive direction, and efforts should be made to build on that solid foundation.

That should be followed by serious discussions at the governmental and business levels to find ways to develop the vast resources that Guyana has to offer with input from the Barbadian population. There should also be an increase in the military cooperation between the two countries so they can respond to disasters, such as the one that occurred in Dominica recently, in a more effective way.

Improved relations between Barbados and Guyana can also lead to a solution to the unemployment problem that is plaguing both countries, and can benefit both countries in the long run.
