BWU’s warning

THE BARBADOS WORKERS’ UNION (BWU) will not allow the bottom lines of business to take precedence over workers’ rights.

General secretary Toni Moore is sending a strong message to companies that the BWU will be vigilant in protecting workers’ rights.

She has used the developments surrounding the current price war between Arawak Cement Co. and Rock Hard Cement as a launchpad to express the union’s concerns.

“For too many months now, the secretariat has been extremely busy navigating waves of restructuring; more recently, with the Arawak Cement Co., Massy Stores and the Barbados Port Inc.,” she said.

Moore added that the Arawak case had been especially troubling. (JS)
