GOVERNMENT IS IN TALKS with regional and international lending agencies to extend the water mains laying programme.
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Minister of Agriculture and Water Resource Management, Dr David Estwick, at the official opening of the $65 million new headquarters of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).
He said discussions have been ongoing with the Latin America Development Bank, the Caribbean Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
“Down the road I am seeing significant reduction in the non-revenue water issues that plagues the water authority in regards to affecting its bottom line and for the short term regarding the outages that we’ve been having there is going to be no solution apart from desalination,” Estwick said.
