IF SOMEONE SAID there were no yellow or gold shirts left on store shelves, they could be forgiven for the error.
For yesterday, thousands of Barbadians clad in the patriotic colour thronged the Garrison Savannah and then lined the route from there to Independence Square, brightening a dreary, overcast morning.
They came out to see the ceremonial parade of the island’s armed and unarmed uniformed organisations celebrate the island’s 49th year of Independence and to witness the handing over of a specially crafted Broken Trident to mark the start of celebrations for its half-century separation from colonial master Britain.
The pre-dawn showers threatened to put a damper on the celebrations, but by sunrise the rains had abated and the detachments took to the parade square of the historic Garrison Savannah. (HLE)
