Lashley: It’s BLP’s fault

STEPHEN LASHLEY couldn’t waste the chance to take a swing at the Opposition.

The Minister of Sports all but laid the blame at the feet of the Barbados Labour Party for the deterioration of the country’s major sporting facilities, implying the previous administration failed to maintain both the National Stadium and the Wildey Gym.

Lashley made the insinuations during yesterday’s Talk Yah Talk call-in programme on QFM as local sports awaits the closure of both venues next year. stephen-lashley55

“In good economic times when the country would’ve been boasting on average 3.5 per cent growth one would’ve thought that some priority should’ve been given to improving and refreshing our sporting infrastructure in Barbados [but] that has not happened,” said Lashley.

“In reflecting on that we recognise that that is obviously a faux pas, an error, a blunder of the past [and] to correct that we have to move towards having a new National Stadium… but as we all are aware we are still riding a wave of trying to get out of a serious economic situation and we have to ensure that as we move towards finding those funding arrangements for the Stadium we can do so that will not further endanger our national debt situation.
