NICOLAS FERNANDEZ sure looks ready for Rio. There’s just no stopping the Olympic Games-bound Frenchman at this Run Barbados Marathon Weekend after Fernandez continued to shine in his debut appearance by easily winning yesterday’s 10K race on the Bridgetown route.
Running from the Bay Street Esplanade to Spring Garden Highway and back, the resolute French national champ basically ran the last half of the course uncontested before storming home in an unofficial time 32 minutes, 50.14 seconds.
Talented Barbados Defence Force athlete Joshua Hunte came second in an encouraging 34:33 ahead of national triathlete Jason Wilson (34:48) before 2013 champ Jessica Draskau (35:24) of the US returned after a one-year hiatus to recapture the women’s crown.
