THE BARBADOS WOMEN’S volleyball team could not repeat the success of the men’s team as they suffered a 3-1 opening loss to Haiti when the 10th Caribbean Junior Volleyball Championships continued tonight at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Barbados lost 26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 25-22 in a match where they were out powered by a superior Haitian attack.

The Bajan lasses found it hard to contain Haiti’s Solaida Pierre who punished them time and time again with vicious cross court kills.

In the other women’s matches contested today, the U.S. Virgin Islands defeated Curacao 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18 and Martinique defeated Guadeloupe 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20.

Over in the men’s division, Guadeloupe defeated Aruba 25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 while Curacao won 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 over the U.S. Virgin Islands. In the other men’s match Haiti defeated Martinique 25-13, 25-16, 25-13.

Tomorrow, Barbados men’s team will take on Haiti at 8 p.m. (PG)
