ANSA McAL may have lost the fight for Barbados beer, but the Trinidad-based conglomerate still has its eyes set on possibly acquiring either the Pine Hill Dairy or B&B Distribution, or both, in spite of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL) now being majority owned by Brazilian brewery giant AmBev.

President and chief executive officer of ANSA McAL (Barbados), Nicholas Mouttet, admitted yesterday that losing the battle for Banks was “a huge loss”, but the company would continue to look at other regional acquisitions, which formed part of their normal growth strategy.

“I can’t say or not if AmBev is interested in selling off those parts (Pine Hill Dairy and B&B Distribution) of the business, but if they do, I would assume they would come to the market. If they come, we will consider it.”

Mouttet said ANSA McAL was definitely interested in those two entities, especially since AmBev remained a brewing company, mainly interested in the beer business. (BA)
