Barbados beat Martinique for place in semis

They didn’t play their best volleyball until the third set but it was enough to see Barbados girls defeat Martinique in three straight sets and advance to the semi-finals of the 10th Caribbean Junior Volleyball Championships.

On Friday night at the Wildey Gymnasium, Barbados defeated defending champions Martinique 25-20, 26-24, 25-13 in an exciting encounter.

The result meant that Barbados went on to face the United States Virgin Islands in yesterday’s semi-final at 6 p.m.

Coach Patrick Oxley made a number of changes on Friday night, some of which did not go down well with some of the supporters in the stands. Oxley noted that his strategy was to give some of the players who did not get a chance to be in a match to get some confidence under their belts.
