West Indies crashed to a heavy defeat well inside three days against Australia in the first Test yesterday but Kraigg Brathwaite still managed to put his name in the record books.
Another swift collapse handed Australia victory by an innings and 212 runs in Hobart but Brathwaite batted with aplomb in scoring 94 out of West Indies’ second innings total of 148. His score was 63.51 per cent of the team’s total – the fourth-highest in a completed innings and the highest for a West Indian in Test cricket.
Brathwaite was 69 when he was joined by the last man and immediately increased the tempo by smashing four successive boundaries in an over from medium-pacer Mitchell Marsh before falling six short of a century.
