GOVERNMENT HAS APPLIED for a supplemental in excess of two million dollars for CARICOM neighbour Dominica.

While debating the motion today in parliament, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said the money would go towards Dominica’s recovery programmes following the August 27 devastation from Tropical Storm Erika.

Stuart said the whole region was vulnerable and we did not know who would be next. He said the history of the region showed these natural disasters would happen, and while Barbados last faced a major hurricane in 1955 with Hurricane Janet, the island had dealt with other challenges like floods, including Hurricane Tomas in 2010.

The Prime Minister also gave an update on the worldwide climate agreement which was reached last week in Paris.

Under the deal, more developed nations will see to lower their emissions and arrest global warming, which is impacting on Small Island Developing States. (SAT)
